Lettre à Paris I
At last, I write to you at Beetham’s dawn,
thoughts break above cranes in the orange sky.
Residents slouch in chairs, a war lives on.
Whose worth in these battles is justified?
I’m just here to take notes and criticise
ruffled policies and places after
the British left, their most hidden shameful chapters.
I drift these harped countries, dance to new drums,
rift the stage of colonial actors
in the passing views of a wretched man.
