“Melissa Etheridge’s Seminal 1993 Album Made of Two Overlapping Triangles peels back the layers between family, faith, and identity. These poems are “drenched in truth,” as Nick Mehalick unpacks and accepts his queerness and the shame that has followed him throughout his life. As the title suggests, music grounds both the poet and his poems, the prose lyrical and rhythmic, the references adding nostalgia and serving as a roadmap to Mehalick’s lived experiences. This chapbook will speak to anyone who has questioned their sexuality, their sense of self, and their place in the world.”
