Mya Shoemaker
14. An American Sonnet

Meth pipes and teenage boys
Ruchus-yelling. And her blood is on the walls now.
We were the trashy high. The roaches and rats
Runaways who didn’t need to run away.
That girl was queen of being wild and mean
Bloody knuckles and knees. Save-a-lot- a hidden stage.
Virginities that left before they came
If you don’t do this right now you’re fucking lame
Ditched with some rando who is tryna’ pull somethin’
No truth and all dare-it is what it is
Fourteen year old feet slap the asphalt
How dare you worry about me! I’m free!
She holds onto the couch like it could save her
Sex, drugs, and who is watching the children?
