Charles Hermesmann
Jigsaw Puzzle of a Norman Rockwell Painting

Yesterday’s Americano left out on the table
Moonlit curtain waltz, and the open window

When we awoke we were unable to keep still
Like water falling from the lip of a glass

Did you enter the room to find it there scattered
Gingerly touch your fingers to the pieces

And when you arrived near that final picture
Is that when you said you felt like you’d die very young

You mentioned something about your admiration of Joe DiMaggio
Who loved the taste of tobacco like you did

I remember you asked for my forgiveness
Placing the last piece where it belonged

You outstretched your arm
Pressed your lips into what looked like a diamond

And picked at the dirt beneath your nails
